The reason for doing this assignment was to use the sources we had found and piece them together in an academic manner that would then be helpful for our final research proposal. I found it important to include this specific piece of work in my e portfolio because it is clear that i am able to use evidence that will support my claims and test my hypothesis.
Key Claims to Support my Hypothesis:
Psychopathy
Disorders
Frontal Lobe Damage
Police Interaction

A common area of focus among researchers encompassing repeated violence is psychopathy. It is of vital importance to recognize that those with psychopathic personalities are to violate laws after already having been in trouble for the same crime before (Schachner 2017). Psychopathy makes up for a large part of thrill seeking violence with a clear root from heredity.
We can gather plenty of information that depicts violence influencing self, home, and community life. One of the main arguments discussed in this text, which has been seen as common through out my research, is that we cannot ignore the issue of mental health because the rates of violence have been rising and there seems to be a correlation (Monahan 2001).
It is speculated that injuries to the brain can cause severe damage and perhaps the effects will not be seen instantly, but rather over time. “Defects in or injury to certain areas of the brain have also been linked to some mental illnesses” (Causes of Mental Illness 2017). Hawkins and Trobst state, “There is compelling evidence of an association between brain dysfunction and aggressive behavior.
Two common law principles are considered when police officers are taking action upon a mentally ill person, “(1) The power and responsibility of the police to protect the safety of the public and (2) parens partriae, which dictates protection for disabled citizens such as mentally ill persons” (Teplin 2000).
